Living on campus

With approximately 20,000 inhabitants, Germersheim is and has always been of great importance due to its military site. Throughout the region, the town is also known for its annual Special Bikes Show in April.

In 1947 by order of the Supreme Command of the French occupation zone, an official school for interpreters was established Then, in 1949, the school was integrated into the University of Mainz. Since 2009, the faculty has been known as Fachbereich Translations-, Sprach- und Kulturwissenschaft (FTSK, Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies). Roughly 2,000 students study at the FTSK.
