Old meets young

Twice a month, the motto in the day care centre ‘Lindwürmer’ is "old meets young". The purpose of our cooperation with the local retirement home "Casa Reha" is building bridges and developing an understanding between the generations. This experience enables two completely different worlds to meet and create something that enriches the lives of both the senior citizens and the children.

Every first Wednesday of the month, the senior citizens come to our day care centre and on every third Wednesday of the month, the children visit the retirement home. The nursery teaching staff of both institutions plan, prepare, carry out, reflect on and document activities and events.

Green up your college

Together with students from the project ‘Green up your college’, we whip our kitchen garden into top shape every spring: this includes weeding the garden and preparing the soil before then planting the garden. Afterwards, we hand over the responsibility of the garden to the children. The children are responsible for regularly watering the plants and harvesting, washing, preparing and eating the vegetables. Once everything has been picked in autumn, the students come and visit the day care centre once more at the end of the year and build paper lanterns with the children using recyclable material that they collected and dried together. We are currently planning future joint activities.

Healthy teeth - right from the very start

Once a year, the mixed-in-age group takes part in the project "Healthy teeth - right from the very start" with our partner dentist Dr. Schelz. Essential elements of this collaboration in promoting dental health are a visit from the dentist to the day care centre involving a puppet show and practising correct "tooth brushing techniques", a trip to the dentist’s office and a parents' evening.

Parent support adviser Ms Krebühl organises another event on dental care for children under the age of three. The event covers important topics such as: How do I properly care for baby teeth? Dummies and drinking bottles? Fluorides and their effects? A healthy diet for children and their teeth? And more.
